Lake Travis Independent School District

The highly acclaimed Lake Travis Independent School District (LTISD) provides outstanding educational services to the Lake Travis area, approximately twenty miles west of Austin. The serenity and natural beauty of the area contrasts the close proximity to the amenities of the Austin metro area.

Originally included in Dripping Springs ISD, LTISD was formed in 1981. The district currently provides services to more than 5,800 students. The student population consists of 83% White, 13% Hispanic, 1% African American, and 2% Asian students. The tax rate for LTISD is $1.3585 per $100 valuation.

The district includes four elementary schools (Bee Cave, Lake Pointe, Lake Travis, and Lakeway), two middle schools (Lake Travis Middle and Hudson Bend), and one high school (Lake Travis High). A fifth elementary, Serene Hills, is scheduled to open in August 2008.

Looking to the future, the school district plans to expand the high school, Lake Travis Middle, and Hudson Bend Middle. Additional school campuses to accommodate the growth in the area are on the horizon.

On the Texas Education Agency Academic Excellence Indicator System for 2007, Lake Travis was rated as Academically Acceptable. Schools within the district receiving Exemplary ratings were Bee Cave Elementary, Lakeway Elementary, Lake Pointe Elementary, and Lake Travis Middle. Hudson Bend Middle received a Recognized rating from TEA.

Lakeway Elementary School was named by the Texas Business and Education Coalition to its Honor Roll for the second year in a row. Texas Monthly magazine named Lakeway Elementary and Hudson Bend Middle to its list of High Performing Public Schools in December 2007.

For 2007, two LT high school students were named as National Merit Finalists and eight students were recognized as Commended. Four LT High School students were named as National Hispanic Scholars in 2007.

Community involvement is a vital component of Lake Travis ISD. Each campus has a Campus Advisory Team (CAT) made up of school staff and community members. The school district also participates in programs such as the Partners in Education Program and Volunteers in Public Schools. The Community Education Program offered by LTISD enjoys strong community participation. School facilities receive extensive use from various organizations in the area.

With its motto, “Every heart. Every mind. Every day.”, Lake Travis Independent School District illustrates its commitment to providing the best of educational services to all its students within this beautiful lake community.
